Edmond Paul de Barth , née Marie Antoinette Elisabeth Marguerite de Barth (born May 27, 1754 in Strasbourg , † August 29, 1808 in Rosendahl ) was a French Cistercian , Trappist and superior of Darfeld-Rosenthal Monastery .

life and work

Marie Antoinette Elisabeth Marguerite de Barth was a Cistercian in the Koenigsbruck monastery . After the dissolution of her monastery by the French Revolution , she entered the Sembrancher monastery founded by Augustin de Lestrange on September 30, 1797 , the first Trappist monastery ever. She took the religious name Edmond (after Edmund Rich ) Paul and in a leading position from 1798 to 1800 she walked the monastery, led by Lestrange, to Orscha in Belarus and from there to Darfeld , where she was the founding priority of the women's monastery on December 28, 1800 Maison-Dieu de Notre Dame de la Miséricorde (Convent of Our Lady of Mercy). After her death, she was followed by Hélène Van den Broeck .
