Edmund Holzfeind

Edmund Holzfeind (born September 18, 1897 in Vienna , † September 2, 1974 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and postal worker. He was a member of the Federal Council from 1945 to 1949 and a member of the Austrian National Council from 1949 to 1962 .

Life

Holzfeind attended elementary, civil and commercial school and learned the trade of a businessman. He was an employee of the postal union from 1919 and became secretary of this organization in 1923. In 1934 he lost his job as a result of the Austrian Civil War and became a senior commercial clerk (head of accounting) at Uher & Co. At the same time, from 1934 to 1945 he worked illegally within the Free Trade Union of Post and Telegraph Employees. He later became a postal worker again and in 1945 he became the central secretary of the Union of Post and Telegraph Employees.

Holzfeind represented the SPÖ between December 19, 1945 and November 8, 1949 in the Federal Council and was then National Councilor from November 8, 1949 to December 14, 1962. He also worked as a member of the federal board of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions.

Holzfeind was buried in the Ottakring cemetery after his death on September 17, 1974 .
