Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence GCMG OBE QC JP (born February 14, 1932 ) was Governor General of Saint Kitts and Nevis from 2013 to 2015. He was sworn in at midnight on January 1, 2013.

Life

Lawrence began his career as a primary school teacher in St. Kitts. He taught from 1951 to 1954. Then he began studying at the University of London and graduated in 1966 with a degree in economics.

He then taught himself from 1967 to 1969 at Walbrook College in London. In 1970 he returned to St. Kitts, where he founded the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank . The bank grew in assets from US $ 75,000 to over US $ 1,000,000,000. This makes it one of the largest local banks in the Eastern Caribbean . Lawrence also founded the National Bank Trust Company (NBC) in 1972 , as well as the National Caribbean Insurance Company (CINCH) and the St. Kitts and Nevis Mortgage and Investment Company (MIC, 2001), which together form the National Bank Group of Companies .

He is also a founding member of the Standing Committee of Chief Executives of Indigenous Commercial Banks (Caribbean Association of Banks) in the Caribbean Community .

Lawrence was deposed on May 20, 2015. Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton was his successor. Lawrence continues to serve in various honorary positions, such as the committee of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society and Rotary International .

Lawrence is a Methodist. He is married to Lady Hulda. The couple have six children.
