Edmund Merkel

Edmund Hermann Josef Merkel (born March 13, 1947 in Heidelberg ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). From May 14, 1991 to May 13, 2007 he was Lord Mayor of Balingen .

Life

His parents are Eugen Merkel, an administrative clerk, and Ida, geb. Lampert. He has five siblings. On July 15, 1972 he married Viktoria Frietsch (born May 26, 1949 in Pforzheim). They have two sons and two daughters and seven grandchildren.

Attended primary school in Dossenheim near Heidelberg and the Bunsen grammar school in Heidelberg; Abitur on October 7, 1966. Career history

Legal advisor at the municipal employers' association of Baden-Württemberg from February 1977 to December 1978, then until the end of October 1982 Head of Human Resources at the Baden-Württemberg motorway office in Stuttgart. In January 2006 Merkel announced that she would not run for a third term as Mayor of Balingen the following year. The following honorary tasks were associated with his work as Lord Mayor: Chairman of the Zollernalb Water Supply Association and the Balingen Wastewater Treatment Association.

He was a member of the district council of the Zollernalb district from autumn 1994 to October 2016. During this time he also chaired the CDU parliamentary group, the strongest parliamentary group in the district assembly.
