Edmund Hermann Josef Merkel (born March 13, 1947 in Heidelberg ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). From May 14, 1991 to May 13, 2007 he was Lord Mayor of Balingen .

Life

His parents are Eugen Merkel, an administrative clerk, and Ida, geb. Lampert. He has five siblings. On July 15, 1972 he married Viktoria Frietsch (born May 26, 1949 in Pforzheim). They have two sons and two daughters and seven grandchildren.

Attended primary school in Dossenheim near Heidelberg and the Bunsen grammar school in Heidelberg; Abitur on October 7, 1966. Career history

He was a member of the district council of the Zollernalb district from autumn 1994 to October 2016.
