Edmund William Samuel (born November 27, 1857 in Blaenavon , Wales , †  March 7, 1930 in Mount Carmel , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . From 1905 to 1907 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1859, Edmund Samuel and his parents came to Ashland , Pennsylvania from their Welsh homeland . He attended the public schools in his new home and then worked in coal mining. Then he learned the trade of pharmacist. After studying medicine at the "Jefferson Medical College" in Philadelphia and being admitted as a doctor in 1880, he began to practice this profession in Mount Carmel. There he was also the school director from 1890 to 1894.

Politically, Samuel became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1904 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Charles Heber Dickerman on March 4, 1905 . Since he was not re-elected in the 1906 election, he only served one term in Congress until March 3, 1907 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Edmund Samuel worked as a doctor again. In 1908 he tried unsuccessfully to return to Congress. From 1908 to 1924 he was general manager of the company "Shamokin-Mount Carmel Transit Co." Then he moved to New York City , where he spent his old age in Brooklyn . He died on March 7, 1930 in Mount Carmel, where he was also buried.
