Edmund Yard Robbins

Edmund Yard Robbins (born October 3, 1867 in Windsor, New Jersey , † May 30, 1942 in Princeton, New Jersey ) was an American classical philologist .

Life

Edmund Yard Robbins studied at Princeton University , where he received his bachelor's degree in 1889 and his master's degree in 1890 . From 1891 to 1894 he deepened his studies at the University of Leipzig . On his return he taught Greek courses as an instructor at Princeton University. In 1897 he was appointed assistant professor . After his doctorate to Doctor of Letters with an unprinted thesis on the Greek orator Isaios (1901) he was appointed full professor in 1902. In 1910, succeeding S. Stanhope Orris , he was appointed Charles Ewing Professor of Greek Language and Literature . From 1921 to 1922 he was Annual Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens . In 1936 he retired .

Edmund Yard Robbins, a member of the American Philological Association since 1895, died May 30, 1942. In 1949, the Edmund Y. Robbins Fellowships in Classics were established in his memory .
