Edmund von Pfleiderer

Edmund Pfleiderer , from 1898 from Pfleiderer , (born October 12, 1842 in Stetten im Remstal, today in Kernen im Remstal ; † April 3, 1902 in Tübingen ) was professor of philosophy .

Life

Pfleiderer studied Protestant theology at the University of Tübingen and was field preacher in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. From 1873 he was professor of philosophy at the University of Kiel , from 1877 at the University of Tübingen. For the academic year 1897/98 he was elected rector of the University of Tübingen. In his works he mainly dealt with questions of epistemology , ethics as well as history and the philosophy of history .

He was at times an active member of the National Liberal Party , whose Württemberg organization was the German Party .

Around 1864, as vicar in Eningen, he met the women's rights activist Helene Lange , who at the time was spending a year with the parish family Max Eifert . She mentions him as the only man who seriously involved the partially educated women who lived and visited in the rectory in his philosophical conversations.

In 1898 Edmund Pfleiderer was awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , which was associated with the personal title of nobility.

Edmund von Pfleiderer was a brother of the theologian Otto Pfleiderer and the manufacturer Gustav Adolf Pfleiderer . Edmund's daughter Thekla was married to the zoologist Richard Hesse and was the mother of the chemist Gerhard Hesse (1908–1997).
