Edo Leitner

Edo Leitner (* 1907 in Künzelsau ; † November 1, 1991 in Freiburg ) was a German graphic artist .

Life

Edo Leitner was born in Künzelsau as the son of a teacher Wilhelm and the pianist Martha Leitner. He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart. He then ran a graphics studio in Reutlingen. He grew up in the turmoil of the Weimar Republic . He was arrested by the National Socialists in March 1933 after the fire in the Reichstag and taken into “protective custody” for six months in the Heuberg concentration camp . In March 1936 he was arrested again and sentenced to two and a half years in prison for alleged high treason. After that, however, he was not released, but instead brought to Buchenwald concentration camp in 1939 . After the end of the war he came to Schwäbisch Gmünd via Stuttgart and was involved for many years in the unification of those persecuted by the Nazi regime and in the peace movement. Again and again he reported as a witness of the fascist crimes of his experiences. He spent the last years of his life in Freiburg.
