Edouard Agneessens
Edouard Agneessens (born August 24, 1842 in Brussels , † August 20, 1885 in Uccle ) was a Belgian portrait painter .
He studied from 1856 to 1865 and from 1869 to 1870 at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles with François-Joseph Navez , and also privately in the studio of Jean-François Portaels .
After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance portrait artist in Brussels. He spent the years 1869 to 1871 in Saint Petersburg , where he portrayed many prominent people. He was a co-founder of the Société Libre des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
Around 1875 he fell ill with a mental illness and in 1880 he stopped painting. His mental illness led to his premature death in 1885 at the age of 42.
