Eduard Becker (forest scientist)

Daniel Heinrich Eduard Becker (born May 18, 1792 in Rövershagen , † January 26, 1880 in Rostock ) was a German forest scientist and economist . He taught at the University of Rostock .

Life

Eduard Becker was the eldest son of the forest inspector Hermann Friedrich Becker (1766-1852) and his wife Algard Johanna, née Krömer (* 1771). Until Easter 1811 he attended the large city school in Rostock , after which he studied at the University of Rostock. In the period from 1813 to 1815 he studied practical forest science. In 1815/1816 he stayed at the Königs forest school in Ruhla , and in the summer of 1816 in Breslau .

After that, Becker was busy with forest and agricultural measurements in several places. From 1820 to 1841 he was the tenant of the city garden in Ober rövershagen .

In October 1821 Becker married Caroline Link, the daughter of the scientist and Rostock professor Heinrich Friedrich Link . On November 13, 1830, he became a full professor of agriculture at the University of Rostock and has taught economics and forest science ever since. His predecessor was Lorenz Karsten .

Becker has not had to give lectures since 1873, and two years later he voluntarily retired. Armin zur Lippe-Weißenfeld became the successor professor . He died in Rostock in 1880 at the age of 87.
