Carl Friedrich Eduard Demel (* 1822 in Hamburg ; † September 3, 1900 ibid) was a German entomologist , explorer and natural food dealer.

Life

Eduard Demel undertook three research trips from 1852 to 1860 and 1866 to 1867, two of them to Australia and one to the Fiji Islands . In Australia, his whereabouts were Sydney (1852-1858), Western Australia (1859), Port Curtis (1860), Port Denison and Rockhampton (February to May 1866) and Cap York (May to December 1866). After his return, Dämel traded in kind in Hamburg and worked as an assistant at the Godeffroy Museum .

In 1871, Demel went back to Australia as an explorer for the Godeffroy Museum to collect artifacts. He arrived in Sydney in November. Other stops on this trip were from March 1872 Rockhampton, from July 1872 Peak Downs, from May 1873 Rockhampton, from December 1873 Gayndah and from May 1874 to February 1875 again Sydney. Damel sent collected copies to the Godeffroy Museum in Hamburg. Among other things, around 40,000 stuck insects arrived. Demel returned from Australia in May 1875. He ran his natural produce store again, first on Annenstrasse and later on Bernhardstrasse . The last curator of the Museum Godeffroy CA Pöhl was listed in the address books at the same address .

Damel traded in specimens collected by the Swiss entomologist Jacob Boll . Boll had emigrated to the USA and worked as a collector in Texas .

The exhibits collected by Demel can be found in various scientific collections, for example at the Humboldt University in Berlin and Harvard University .
