The Journal of the Museum Godeffroy was a German publication for geographical , ethnographic and scientific information. The journal appeared from 1873 to 1910.
history
The businessman Johan Cesar Godeffroy intended to publish a "Journal about the South Seas" in the early 1870s. He commissioned Eduard Graeffe , who worked as a researcher and collector for the Godeffroy Museum on Samoa and other islands in the Pacific Ocean , to take over the editing in Hamburg. The first issue of the Journal of the Museum Godeffroy appeared in 1873. After Graeffes left Hamburg, Ludwig Friederichsen took over the editing.
The journal was published by L. Friederichsen & Co. in Hamburg. A total of 17 issues were published, which were summarized in 6 volumes. As part of the Journal of the Museum Godeffroy , the publication Andrew Garrett's Fish from the South Seas by Albert Günther appeared in 3 volumes with a total of 9 issues. For that made Andrew Garrett at about 470 drawings of fish.
The last volume was published in 1909/10 with the support of “Dr. Wilhelm Martin von Godeffroy Familien-Fidei-Comiss-Stiftung ”published.

Illustrations
The articles were supplemented with illustrations and colored panels. Draftsmen of illustrations were u. a. George Henry Ford , Andrew Garrett and Theodor Kleinschmidt . These drawings of animals, people and landscapes and photographs were among others. a. Lithographed by the lithographer Wilhelm Heuer , known for his Hamburgensien , the drawings of the fish by Andrew Garrett of Mintern Bros. , Werner & Winter and others.
