Eduard Geffcken

Eduard Geffcken (* 1801 in Hamburg , † 1866 in Lübeck ) was a German pharmacist and parliamentarian.

Life

Geffcken was the son of the Hamburg merchant Hinrich Geffcken (1748–1806), who ran the drug dealer G. Lipmann as a trading business. He studied pharmacy and was in 1824 at the University of Jena to the Dr. phil. PhD. At the age of 23 he acquired citizenship in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. He also bought the Sonnen Apotheke there and moved it from Pfaffenstrasse to Mühlenstrasse 16 in 1827 .

He was the owner of the rabbit mountain farm on the Wakenitz and used the windmill there from 1836 to 1848 to grind pharmaceutical raw materials and products. During his professional life he accumulated an extensive subject-related private library, which he donated to the city ​​library together with his portrait collection in 1861 . He took an active part in the professional associations of German pharmacists.

After he had already belonged to the Jewish Commission under the Lübeck Syndicus Carl August Buchholz in 1842 and 1843 together with the councilor Ludwig Müller and the businessman Friedrich Boldemann , he became a member of the Lübeck citizenship in 1848 .

The Hamburg Senator Heinrich Geffcken , who continued his father's trading business, and the Pastor Johannes Geffcken were his brothers. Eduard Geffcken's sister Henriette Geffcken married the merchant and senior elder Carl Philipp Kunhardt . The daughter Minna Kunhardt emerged from the marriage and was married to Johann Friedrich Albrecht August Meyer .
