Ludwig Müller (born April 8, 1782 in Lübeck , † April 17, 1865 ibid) was a German merchant and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Müller was the son of the businessman and Lübeck councilor Georg Wilhelm Müller from his second marriage. He was elected to the city council in 1818 as the senior man of the Novgorod drivers. In 1820 he married the daughter of the councilor Friedrich Nölting and thus triggered a constitutional discussion in Lübeck between the citizenship and the council on the interpretation of the citizens' recession of 1669 as the basis of the Lübeck state constitution, which was restored after the Lübeck French era . According to the provisions of the citizens' recession, the family influence in the Lübeck council should be limited by the fact that relatives and by-laws were not allowed to have a seat and vote in the council at the same time to a certain extent. In the compromise, both Müller and Nölting were allowed to remain in the Senate, but the Senate undertook to pay more attention to compliance with these constitutional principles in the future. Müller was a member of the Commission for Action and Shipping in the council for 46 years and also belonged to other commissions and deputations with mostly economic or fiscal issues. In 1851 he requested his discharge from office. After the first promise from the council that he wanted to comply with the dismissal request in 1853, he was asked in 1852 to withdraw the request. In 1865 he was granted dismissal from the council on his renewed request; he passed away three weeks later.

Ludwig Müller was awarded the Bene Merenti commemorative coin by the city of Lübeck when he left the council .
