Eduard Ignaz Gundling (born February 7, 1819 in Prague ; † October 28, 1905 there ) was Professor of Austrian Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law at the Karl Ferdinand University in Prague and Czech state advocate.

Life and family

Eduard Gundling was born in Prague as the first of seven children of Anton Gundling and Petronilla Gundling, born Alscher . He comes from the Franconian family of scholars Gundling , his brother was the novelist Julius Gundling , his daughter Tonia von Procházka .

After Eduard Gundling had attended the elementary classes at the Prague model secondary school, he graduated from the Neustädter Gymnasium in Prague from 1829 to 1834. After enrolling at Prague University in 1834, he studied four semesters of philosophy and eight semesters of law . In 1842 he received his doctorate in both rights from the rector of the University Alois Joseph Freiherr von Schrenk zu Notzing . During his time as district court adjunct in Raudnitz an der Elbe , he got to know Pauline, the daughter of the council secretary and city registrar Franz Stupka. The wedding took place in Prague in 1855, where he accepted a position at the regional court. In 1861 he completed his habilitation as a private lecturer in Austrian criminal law at the University of Prague. In 1864 he opened a law firm in his parents' house. In 1868 he became professor of criminal law and criminal procedure law at the new Karl Ferdinand University, where he worked until his retirement in 1885. As early as 1867 he was appointed state advocate in Prague and in 1874 he became a member of the newly established State Examination Commission for the Teaching of Music. In 1888 he was elected to chair it. In 1899 he was appointed to the panel of experts in matters of copyright for the field of music.

On October 31, 1905, he was carried from the house to the Gundling family crypt in the Wolfschaner cemetery in Prague by an honorary company of the kk privileged bourgeois sniper corps , flanked by officers of the same and followed by pedals from the two Prague universities and large participation of the population from all walks of life buried.

Act

As a private lecturer and professor at Karl Ferdinand University, he publishes many scientific articles in legal journals on criminal proceedings. He has also published a work on attempting criminal acts and has given bilingual lectures on music history and criminal procedural law. He achieved great popularity as a representative in court, where he represented the most socially disadvantaged in legal matters free of charge.

Eduard Gundling was always concerned with music. He was very involved in the Association for the Promotion of Music in Bohemia and gave free lectures on music history at the Prague Utraquist Conservatory in German and Czech .

Eduard Gundling also worked on a voluntary basis as archivist and historian of the kk privileged civil sniper corps.

Honors

December 15, 1885 he was appointed honorary officer in the staff of the kk privileged civil sniper corps with a diploma. He was also a patron saint and honorary member of the Welsh congregation and the Italian orphanage in Prague, as well as the Marian love association with the PP Capuchins on the Hardschin.
