Eduard Viktorovich Gushchin
Eduard Viktorovich Gushchin ( Russian Эдуард Викторович Гущин , English transcription Eduard Gushchin ; born July 27, 1940 in Motygino , Krasnoyarsk region ; † March 14, 2011 in Moscow ) was a Russian shot putter who ran for the Soviet Union.
In 1965 he won bronze at the Universiade and in 1967 silver at the European Indoor Games .
In 1968 he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico City with 20.09 m behind the Americans Randy Matson (20.54 m) and George Woods (20.12 m). Shortly before that, Gushchin was the first Soviet athlete to surpass the 20-meter mark with 20.28 m, also in Mexico City .
At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969 , he was sixth.
In 1968 and 1970 he became Soviet champion.
