Eduard Joseph Hlawaczek (born September 25, 1808 in Karlsbad ; † December 30, 1879 ibid) was a Bohemian physician and author.

Life

He was born as the son of the Karlsbad carpenter and forte piano maker Caspar Hlawaczek and the daughter Katharina of the pewter master Franz Hofmann. After attending school in the Bohemian town of Karlovy Vary, he attended a philosophical course in Prague in preparation for the subsequent medical studies at the universities in Vienna , Prague and Padua . In 1834 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. He then settled as a well doctor in his hometown Karlsbad, where he worked until his death at the age of 71. He confessed himself to be an opponent of the traditional humoral pathology .

His circle of friends included Heinrich Heine , whom he met in Paris in 1839/1840.

Eduard Hlawaczek presented several publications on Karlsbad, which were reprinted several times.

Honors

Eduard Hlawaczek was made an honorary citizen of his hometown Karlovy Vary due to his services as a doctor and promoter of bathing tourism.
