Eduard Hoeppener

Fabian Eduard Hoeppener (* January 16 . Jul / 27. January  1795 greg. In Reval ; † February 15 jul. / 27. February  1856 greg. ) Was a Baltic German merchant and commercial entrepreneurs .

Life

Eduard Hoeppener was the son of the Revaler Advocatus Ordinarius and man-court secretary Carl Christian Hoeppener (1758–1819) and his wife Anna Gerdrutha geb. Riesemann and nephew of the Revaler Rathmann, senior man of the Great Guild and treasurer Fabian Barward Hoeppener († February 19 July / March 2,  1816 greg. ). After attending the Reval district school and the government high school (1807-1810), he trained as a businessman.

In 1817, Hoeppener went into business for himself by founding the trading company E. Hoeppener & Co., initially in his father's house. When the first Russian insurance company was founded in 1827, the company immediately took over the representation of this company for Estonia .

In addition to his commercial activity, Hoeppener also took on public offices in Reval. He was the Brazilian vice consul , spokesman for the Great Guild and councilor since 1852.

Eduard Hoeppener & Co.

After Hoeppener's death, his eldest son Carl Christian Hoeppener (1819–1893) took over the company, into which he brought his own Moscow business and which he continued as the Eduard Hoeppener & Co. company. In 1861 he passed the Reval business to his younger brother Ludwig Theodor Hoeppener (1836–1874), Reval merchant, consul and councilor, while he ran the Moscow business until 1863. After Ludwig Theodor Hoeppener's death, his brother-in-law Gustav Friedrich Grühn continued to run the company and in 1894 handed it over to Edgar Hoeppener , the son of Ludwig Theodor Hoeppener.
