Eduard Holbein
Carl Eduard Holbein (* 1807 in Berlin ; † February 19, 1875 there ) was a German painter and illustrator .
Life
Eduard Holbein was born in Berlin in 1807. He attended the Berlin Academy and continued his training from 1832 to 1839 in Carl Joseph Begas' studio . From 1851 he taught at the Berlin Academy, which appointed him professor in 1853. He also gave Max Liebermann and Hans von Marées private drawing lessons. At the beginning of the 1850s he and Karl Stürmer painted the portraits of the German Emperors in the ceiling medallions in the Medieval Hall in the New Museum in Berlin. In 1856 he restored the high altar in St. Nikolai in Stralsund together with his brother, the sculptor Friedrich Wilhelm Holbein . He died on February 19, 1875 in Berlin.
