Eduard Horst
Eduard Horst (born November 20, 1893 in Cologne , † 1966 in Bad Honnef ) was a German landscape , portrait and glass painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Horst, offspring of a Cologne industrial family, studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . For a long time he lived in Cologne, later in Bad Honnef, where he had an upper-class studio and left behind a complex, largely undated work. He and his wife maintained friendly contacts with the painter Carlo Mense . As Lord Mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer had Horst portray himself in 1928. Horst, a devout Catholic, made a large number of church windows in the Rhineland, for example for the churches of St. Maria Königin in Bergneustadt - Wiedenest , for St. Germanus in Wesseling , for St. Lambertusin Hückelhoven or for St. Mary's Visitation in Rhöndorf . The origin of the windows of St. Mary's Visitation is related to the then Chancellor Adenauer, who lived in Rhöndorf, as there are roses and Indians on them that refer to the biography of Adenauer. The St. Konrad window there was a present from the German bishops to Adenauer on his 80th birthday.
