Eduard Samuilowitsch Panzerschanski ( Russian Эдуард Самуилович Панцержанский ; born September 30 . Jul / 12. October  1887 greg. In Liepaja ; † 26. September 1937 in Kommunarka ) was a Soviet military and commander in chief of the Soviet Seekriegsflotte . He last held the rank of flagman 1st rank , which corresponded to a vice admiral in other fleets.

Life

Panzerschanski came from an impoverished Polish noble family. He studied at the Riga Polytechnic and graduated from the Naval Cadet School in 1910 . In 1913 he was appointed officer and served in the Baltic fleet . He fought on the destroyer Grom in the Baltic States during the First World War and in 1917 participated in the Albion company . He then found employment in the archipelago department of the Baltic Fleet as a flagship mine commander and was promoted to lieutenant. In February 1918 Panzerschansky was elected head of the archipelago department. From November 1918 he commanded the Onegasee war flotilla and in 1919 led various operations on the Finnish Eastern Wars against the White Guards and the Finnish armed forces. In 1920 he was first chief of defense of the Kola Bay , then commander of the Caspian Flotilla and from November 1920 commander of the Black Sea Fleet . From April 1921 he was adjutant to the Commander in Chief of the Crimean and Ukraine coastal troops. From November 1921 to April 1924 Panzerschansky was the commander of the naval forces of the Russian Federal Soviet Socialist Republic (RSFSR) and from April to December 1924 the commander-in-chief of the Soviet naval fleet. He commanded the Black Sea Fleet from 1925 to 1926 and was in responsible positions within the central apparatus of the naval forces of the USSR for the following years. In March 1937 he became head of a naval department and head of department at the military academy of the Red Workers and Peasants Army .

On June 13, 1937, Panzerschanski was arrested, among other things on the basis of forced statements by BM Feldman . He was severely tortured and ill-treated during the investigation. On September 26, 1937, he was found guilty by the Military College of the Supreme Court of the USSR and sentenced to death by shooting . On the same day, the sentence was carried out in Kommunarka , an execution site of the NKVD during the Great Terror .

In 1956, Panzershansky was fully rehabilitated by the military tribunal of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
