Eduard Vischer (historian)

Eduard Vischer (born December 3, 1903 in Rupperswil , † September 13, 1996 in Basel ) was a Swiss historian .

Life

Eduard Wilhelm Vischer was born as the son of the pastor Eduard Vischer and his wife Emma. Heusler was born in Rupperswil. After the baccalaureate exam in 1923 at the Cantonal School in Aarau, he studied history in Basel, Heidelberg and Geneva and in 1929 in Basel to the Dr. phil. PhD. From 1934 to 1963 he was a high school teacher in Glarus. From 1963 to 1969 he worked as a state archivist and librarian.

Vischer was one of the founders of the Basel Historical Circle in 1934; for his numerous scientific work he received the Basel Science Prize in 1969 and the Culture Prize of the Canton of Glarus in 1980 .
