Eduardo Alonso Gonzáles (born June 30, 1963 in Bahía Honda, Pinar del Río , Cuba ) is a former Cuban cyclist and record winner of the Tour of Cuba .

Athletic career

Eduardo Alonso first took part in the Tour of Cuba in 1981 , where he immediately took third place. In the same year he reached fourth place in the individual race and in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships for Juniors in Grimma and Leipzig . In 1982 he drove his first International Peace Tour , in which he took part a total of seven times until 1990. He achieved his best overall placement there in 1983 with a 21st place. Also in 1983 he came second at the Giro delle Regioni in Italy.

However, he celebrated his greatest successes in Latin America . In 1984 and five times in a row from 1986 to 1990 he won the Tour of Cuba and is the record winner. In 1986 he also won the Venezuelan Vuelta al Táchira . In addition, he won several gold medals at Central American and Pan-American championships with the Cuban national team in the team time trial. At the state championships on the track, he won the title in the team pursuit twice . In 1987 he became champion in the single pursuit .

He was also successful several times in the title fights in the team time trial. At the VIII Pan American Games in 1988 he won the single pursuit .
