Eduardo Bonnín Aguiló

Eduardo Bonnín Aguiló (born May 4, 1917 in Mallorca ; † February 6, 2008 in Palma de Mallorca ) was the co-founder and lay initiator of the International Cursillo Movement .

Life

Eduardo Bonnín came from a Mallorcan merchant family. He initially received private lessons, was a student of Augustinian monks and then attended La Salle College in Palma de Mallorca. He was a soldier from 1937 to 1946 and participated in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).

During Holy Week of 1943 he was a participant in the Spanish Catholic Action in preparation for a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, which finally took place in 1948. With the experience of the pilgrimage, he founded the Cursillos de Cristiandad in 1948 , a movement within the Roman Catholic Church that is now represented in more than 800 dioceses in around 60 countries worldwide.
