José Eduardo Coelho (born April 23, 1835 in Coimbra , † May 14, 1889 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese typesetter and journalist.

Career

After the early death of his father, his mother sent Coelho to Lisbon, where he worked in a shop. He learned the craft of a typesetter and joined the Imprensa Nacional in 1857 .

In December 1864 he founded the daily Diário de Notícias together with Tomás Quintino Antunes , which he ran for 25 years until his death in 1889. He was a close friend of the writer Eça de Queirós , who was an important contributor to the newspaper in the early years.
