Eduardo F. Acosta y Lara
Eduardo Federico Acosta y Lara (born July 8, 1917 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † February 14, 2014 ) was a Uruguayan historian and anthropologist .
Acosta y Lara, who has been visiting the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural since 1931 , first studied zoological biology, ethnography and archeology. In 1932 he joined the Sociedad Amigos de la Antropología , worked for a long time as its secretary and published numerous articles in the society's journal. From 1938 to 1962 he worked as a crew member for the airline PLUNA . There he was awarded the millionaire of the skies badge in 1956 because he had exceeded the mark of 15,000 flight hours. Acosta y Lara, who carried out field studies and has now built up zoological collections in the Museo Nacional de Historia Nacional , made several trips to the Amazon, Mato Grosso , eastern Paraguay and northern Bolivia . As an observer, he was also a member of the crew of whaling ships off the Azores. Acosta y Lara was a specialist in bats and owned the largest collection of these animals in the country. This collection was acquired by the Uruguayan state in 1969. His historical publications deal in particular with ethno-history. Acosta y Lara, who was numerical member of the Instituto Histórico y Geográfico del Uruguay , was from 1979 to 1986 assistant at the Department of Anthropology of the Faculty of Humanities and Education (FHCE) of the Universidad de la República .
