Eduardo Naya Marques

Eduardo Escudeiro da Naya Marques , or Eduardo Naya Marques for short (* 1935 in Lourenço Marques , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Portuguese architect .

Life

Eduardo Naya Marques was born in Lourenço Marques, the capital of the former Portuguese colony of Mozambique, in 1935. After completing secondary school, Marques moved to Porto to begin studying architecture at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes in 1955 . Marques later switched to the Lisbon counterpart , where he completed his studies in 1960. Also in 1960 he did an internship in Cassiano Branco's office . At his request, Marques was able to do his military service in Mozambique. There he was stationed at the air force base in Beira for two years , where he designed, among other things, new buildings for the bases in Beira and Nacala .

From 1964 Marques began practicing his profession as an architect, from 1966 Marques moved to the office Gabinete de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (GAU), an architecture office founded by the architects Ramalhete and Sampaio in 1960. Sampaio died in 1968, after which Marques became a partner and the office was renamed Gabinete de Arquitectura, Urbanismo e Decoração (GAUD).

Between 1964 and 1974, Marques taught Descriptive Geometry and Engineering at the Instituto Industrial da Beira . At the same time Marques was employed as a consulting architect for the city of Vila Pery , today's Chimoio.

After Mozambique gained independence, Marques moved to Durban , South Africa , where he worked as a project manager at Franklin, Garland and Gibson . In 1978 he moved on to Portugal, where he was employed by the Fomento-Sociedade de Empreendimentos company until 1986 . Between 1978 and 1986, Marques also ran an architecture office with João José Malto.
