geography

The city is located on the Indian Ocean , on the Baia de Bengo . The natural bay is almost closed.

religion

Nacala is the seat of the diocese of Nacala .

Infrastructure and economy

The city has wide, asphalt boulevards, good restaurants and hotels. Various banks and the usual clearing and forwarding agencies have their headquarters here. Broad, touristically attractive sandy beaches run along the coast. South of Nacala is the Ilha de Moçambique , which is already better developed for tourism than the beaches of Nacala.

The port is a deep-sea port with a water depth of over 60 meters, which allows the handling of the largest ships. Four quays are available for general cargo, plus a container terminal. Around 200 ships are handled every year. With Beira and Maputo , Nacala is one of the three major ports in Mozambique.

The port of Nacala includes the 918 kilometer long railway line ( CFM -Nord) via Nampula and Cuamba to Lichinga (formerly Vila Cabral ).

The port enables the export of tantalum concentrates from the Highland African Mining Company Ltd. to Thailand and the United States .

The international airport is scheduled to open on December 13, 2014, with an initial capacity of 500,000 passengers a year. The US $ 200 million project was funded by the Brazilian and Mozambican governments.
