Educated Fish is a 1937 American animated short film directed by Dave Fleischer .

action

The ABSea School For Fish deep on the ocean floor: Shortly before school starts, the small fish and squid romp around before the teacher calls them to class. A small fish refuses to go to school and has to be caught with a fishing net by the teacher. During the school lesson in which the fish learn about the dangers of fishing , the little fish is inattentive and finally shoots stones at the teacher - she locks him in the school library.

The little fish is not interested in the books, but swims away from a window. He meets an earthworm sitting on a fish hook and flirts with him. The worm knocks him out with a club and hangs him on the fish hook, which now moves to the surface of the water. Despite desperate attempts to escape, the fish cannot tear itself away. Only when he is already in the fishing boat does he manage to jump back into the water. He quickly swims back to school and promises the teacher never to be a naughty fish again.

Educated Fish was shot in Technicolor . The short film was released as part of the Fleischer animated film series Color Classics on October 29, 1937.

Awards

Educated Fish was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " in 1938 , but could not prevail against The Old Mill .
