Edvīns Šnore (born March 21, 1974 in Saulkrasti ) is a Latvian director and screenwriter.

Šnore's family comes from Kuldīga (German: Goldingen). He went to secondary school in Riga. During the upheaval in the Eastern Bloc , he sympathized with the Latvijas Tautas Fronte ( Latvian Popular Front ). He completed his political science studies in Norway. In 2013 , Šnore received his doctorate from the University of Latvia with a thesis on the Western European attitude to the Holodomor ( "Ukrainas bada tēma Rietumu publiskajā telpā 20.gs. 30.gadu sākumā" ).

The Latvian filmmaker became known worldwide with the documentary The Soviet Story . The political scientist collected material for more than ten years before he was able to premiere his film in the European Parliament in 2008 . The Soviet Story provoked violent reactions, especially in Russia it was condemned as a work in politics and the media. For the British The Economist , this counted as a “kind of Oscar ceremony” for the multi-award-winning “gripping, courageous and uncompromising” film. In other Eastern European countries, the reactions were full of praise. Šnore received several awards at film festivals.
