Edward Carrington (born February 11, 1748 in Goochland County , Colony of Virginia , †  October 28, 1810 in Richmond , Virginia ) was an American politician . between 1786 and 1788 he was a delegate for Virginia in the Continental Congress .

Career

Nothing is known about Edward Carrington's youth and schooling. There is also no information in the sources about his career outside of politics. In the 1770s he joined the revolutionary movement. During the War of Independence he was a lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army . At times he served under General Nathanael Greene . He took part in several battles. Between 1786 and 1788 he represented Virginia in the Continental Congress. Between 1789 and 1791 he was US Marshal for Virginia. Between 1807 and 1810 he was two-time mayor of Richmond. Edward Carrington was also known as the chairman of the jury in the treason trial of former Vice President Aaron Burr . He died on October 28, 1810.
