Edward Hiiboro Kussala

Edward Hiiboro Kussala (born March 23, 1964 in Source-Yubu , Tombura County , Gharb al-Istiwa'iyya ) is a South Sudanese clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Tambura-Yambio .

Life

At the age of three months, he lost his mother, who was shot by northern Sudanese troops. His grandmother fled with him to the Congo .

After studying philosophy and theology, he was ordained a priest on May 20, 1994 . Between 1995 and 2001 Kussala worked  as a teacher and pastor in the Central African Republic . From 2001 to 2005 he studied moral theology and international law in Rome . He was then a professor at Khartoum University . Kussala is a member of the East-African Writers Club . He is committed to the peace process in Africa and promotes sustainable aid.

On April 19, 2008 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Tombura-Yambio. The Archbishop of Khartoum , Gabriel Cardinal Zubeir Wako , donated him the episcopal ordination on June 29 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Paulino Lukudu Loro MCCI, Archbishop of Juba , and his predecessor Joseph Abangite Gasi .

Edward Hiiboro Kussala chairs the Joint Bishops' Conference for Sudan and South Sudan.
