Joseph Abangite Gasi
Joseph Abangite Gasi (born January 1, 1928 in Mupoi , † September 12, 2014 in Yambio ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio ( South Sudan ).
Life
Joseph Abangite Gasi was ordained a priest for the Vicariate Apostolic Mupoi on December 21, 1957 .
Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 12, 1974 Bishop of Tombura . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Cardinal Agnelo Rossi , donated him episcopal ordination on April 6, 1975 ; Co - consecrants were Ubaldo Calabresi , Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Sudan , and Ireneus Wien Dud , Bishop of Juba . On April 19, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
In an obituary by the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM / IO), the late Joseph Abangite Gasi received admiration and thanks for his commitment to "dignity, honor and peace for our people and country" in the liberation struggle in the 1990s. He was the central figure in the formation of the New Sudan Council of Churches (NSCC) .
