Edward J. Bonin

Edward John Bonin (born December 23, 1904 in Hazleton , Pennsylvania , †  December 20, 1990 there ) was an American politician . Between 1953 and 1955 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Bonin attended public schools in his home country. Between 1922 and 1926 he served in the US Navy . He then continued his education until 1929 at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston . This was followed by studies at Dickinson College in Carlisle until 1933 . Until 1937 he studied at Temple University in Philadelphia . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1938, he began working in this profession in Hazleton. During the Second World War he served in the US Army between 1942 and 1944 . After that he practiced as a lawyer again. From 1949 to 1952, he was the assistant district attorney in Luzerne County . At the same time he held the office of Mayor of Hazleton from 1951 to 1953. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1952 congressional election , Bonin was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Pennsylvania to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat Daniel J. Flood , whom he defeated in the election, on January 3, 1955 . Since he was defeated by his predecessor Flood in 1954, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until January 3, 1957 . These were shaped by the events of the Cold War and the beginning civil rights movement .

Between 1955 and 1963 he worked as Assistant to the Director for the regional postal administration in the greater Philadelphia area; from 1963 to 1966 he headed the legal department of the Federal Post Office in Washington. After that he practiced as a lawyer again. Edward Bonin died in Hazleton on December 20, 1990 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery , Virginia .
