Edward Lewis (producer)

Edward Lewis (born December 16, 1919 in Camden , New Jersey , † July 27, 2019 in Los Angeles ) was an American film producer .

Life

At the age of 15 he took up a degree from Bucknell University. During the Second World War he served in the US Army . After the war, he settled in Hollywood . His first film production followed in 1949 with The Lovable Cheat . It is an adaptation of a play by Honoré de Balzac , on whose script Lewis also participated. After making another feature film, Lewis first turned to television. For example, he was involved in the Schlitz Playhouse of Stars series.

At the beginning of the 1960s, he put his focus back on cinema productions. He worked for Spartacus for several years with the production company Bryna Productions, which was founded by Kirk Douglas . From 1966 he also produced films by director John Frankenheimer , including The Man Who Lived Twice and Grand Prix .

In 1977 one of his scripts was filmed with Brothers , he was also involved in the production.

Together with his wife Mildred Lewis he was for the film Missing for the Oscar in the category film Best nominated. There was also a nomination in the same category for the British Academy Film Award .

He was also a writer and published the books Heads You Lose (with Mildred Lewis) and Masquerade . 1984 saw the final production of Lewis People on the River with Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek .
