Edward Lloyd (born February 7, 1670 in Easton , Talbot County , Province of Maryland , † March 20, 1718 ibid) was a British colonial governor of the Province of Maryland.

Life

Edward Lloyd II was the son of Colonel Philemon Lloyd and his wife Henrietta Maria Neal Bennett. He was born on his parents' Wye Plantation near Easton in Talbot County. Nothing is known about his youth and school education. He became a soldier and made it to major general. He was also politically active in Maryland. He became a member of the government council (council) of the colony. After the death of Colonial Governor John Seymour on July 30, 1709, he was appointed as his acting successor. Colonel Francis Jenkins was originally intended to serve as President of the Council . However, he failed to meet the necessary formalities. Edward Lloyd held the post of colonial governor until 1714 when he was replaced by John Hart .

Edward Lloyd is the progenitor of a politician dynasty in Maryland. He was married to Sarah Holiday. His son Edward Lloyd III (1711-1770) was the father of Edward Lloyd IV (1744-1796). This was 1783-1784 delegate for Maryland in the Continental Congress . His son Edward Lloyd V (1779-1834), so the great-grandson of the colonial governor, was between 1809 and 1811 governor of the US state of Maryland . After all, his grandson Henry Lloyd (1852–1920) was also Governor of Maryland from 1885 to 1888. This series includes six generations.
