Edward Michael Joyce

Edward Michael Joyce (born June 26, 1904 in Lyttelton , New Zealand , † January 28, 1964 in Christchurch , New Zealand) was a New Zealand clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Christchurch .

Life

Edward Michael Joyce was ordained a priest in 1930 by the Bishop of Toowoomba, James Byrne , after his theological training . Pope Pius XII appointed him Bishop of Christchurch in 1950. The Archbishop of Wellington , Archbishop Peter Thomas McKeefry , ordained him episcopal on July 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were James Michael Liston , Bishop of Auckland, and John Patrick Kavanagh , Coadjutor Bishop of Dunedin. Edward Michael Joyce was the council father of the first two sessions of Vatican II. He died in the episcopate at the age of 59.
