Edwyn Robert Owen (born June 8, 1936 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , † October 5, 2007 in Topeka , Kansas ) was an American ice hockey player . At the 1960 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal as a member of the US national team.

Career

Edwyn Owen began his career as a hockey player at Harvard University , which he attended from 1955 to 1958, while he also played for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He then spent two years with Team USA in their Olympic preparation. He later attended Stanford Business School and graduated in 1964 with a Master of Business Administration . In the late 1960s he spent three years in a closed clinic because of a severe diagnosis of schizophrenia . Although he later recovered somewhat from his illness and was working as an economics professor at Washburn University from 1973 , he continued to suffer occasional attacks of schizophrenia.

In 2007, Owen died of unexplained circumstances and he was found in his burned-out car in a field near where he lived.

International

For the USA Owen took part in the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , where he won the gold medal with his team.
