Eelke van der Wal (born January 15, 1981 in Holwerd ) is a former Dutch cyclist and current cycling trainer.

Athletic career

In 2003, Eelke van der Wal won the one-day race Grote Rivierenprijs and the second stage of the OZ Wielerweekend . The following year he received a contract with the Dutch cycling team Bankgiroloterij . At the Profronde van Fryslân , he and 21 other drivers were classified as winners because they had been misdirected as the leading group. In 2005 Eelke van der Wal moved to Shimano-Memory Corp , in 2006 to Fondas-P3Transfer and in 2008 he drove for the KrolStonE Continental Team .

2006 van der Wal was behind Niki Terpstra Dutch runner-up in the single pursuit on the track . After he was not nominated for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , although he had initially belonged to the squad for the team pursuit , he resigned from active cycling.

Professional

Following his cycling career, Eelke van der Wal worked for the city council of Amsterdam . In 2009 he was appointed by the Dutch cycling association Koninklijke Nederlandsche Wielren Unie (KNWU) as national trainer for the paracycler . His contract was extended in November 2016.
