The ivy arum ( Orobanche hederae ) is a plant species from the genus of arum ( Orobanche ) in the family of arum plants (Orobanchaceae).

description

The ivy root is a parasitic plant that grows 15 to 60 cm high and parasitizes on common ivy ( Hedera helix ). The bracts and scale leaves are noticeably wide.

The crown is 10 to 15 mm long, whitish or yellowish in color. The upper lip is reddish and often has purple veins. On the outside, the crown is bare or only sparsely covered with light, glandular trichomes . The corolla tube is clearly narrowed above the middle. The topline of the corolla is more or less evenly curved. The scar is initially yellow in color, but later turns brown.

The flowering period is May to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 38.

Occurrence

The species is native to Western Europe and Western Asia. Its distribution area includes the Azores, Morocco, Algeria, Southern Europe, Central Europe, Great Britain, the Ukraine, the Caucasus, Turkey and Iran. It grows in parks and ruins as well as on the edges of forests on fresh, nutrient-rich clay soils. In Central Europe it occurs mainly in societies of the Prunetalia order.
