The company, founded in 1880, is based in Mönchengladbach . The original business area was window shutters and company gates. After the Second World War , the company specialized in fire protection doors. Effertz Tore GmbH developed the first generally approved fire protection roller doors (1969) and the first smoke protection sectional door tested according to German standards (1995). The gate manufacturer currently employs around 75 people. According to the company's own information, annual sales are EUR 12.5 million. The company operates worldwide and is one of the " hidden champions of the 21st century". The company is 100% family owned.

history

founding

The company was founded as Mönchengladbacher Jalousienfabrik in September 1880 by master carpenter Wilhelm Effertz (1852-1918). In the same year, a new factory was built at Humboldtstrasse 30 in Mönchengladbach . In 1903 Peter Effertz (1880–1970) received a patent for his new wooden roller shutter design. As an alternative to the previously common construction with steel plates or belts, he had developed a chain construction in flat and round steel. After the patent rights expired, the chain construction prevailed worldwide.

In 1920 the company was expanded to include a location in the street Am Gerstacker 78-82 in Rheydt (today Mönchengladbach ) and renamed the Rolladenwerk Gebr. Effertz, Rheydt. Steel armored roller shutter production was set up in Rheydt . Towards the end of the Second World War, the factory buildings in Munich-Gladbach and Rheydt were completely destroyed in several attacks.

Reconstruction after 1945 and specialization

Until the company's 70th anniversary in 1950, the factory buildings had been rebuilt at both locations. In the 1960s, fire protection roller doors were developed, which in 1969 were the first product of this type to be approved by the Institute for Construction Technology (IfBt, now DIBt - German Institute for Construction Technology), which was founded in 1968. In 1981, the company manufactured and installed the largest fire protection roller doors in Europe for the new Schaubühne theater in Berlin to subdivide the stage and received an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for this. The two gates, 20 m wide and 14 m high, posed a challenge in terms of the structural design of all load-bearing components and the safety technology as well as transport and assembly. The shafts with the rolled-up armor had a diameter of 1.80 m and a weight of 15 t.

From 1989 to 1990, Gebr. Effertz GmbH developed new roller doors for the car and bus wagons of the Eurotunnel shuttle trains. The wagon gates were subject to the requirement that they had to be both fire-resistant and smoke-proof for 30 minutes and had to permanently withstand the dynamic forces that arise during the train journey. Until then, according to the company, only fire-resistant roller doors were used. The additional smoke-tightness was achieved through the use of new insulation materials. The 660 special fire protection roller doors were mass-produced and installed between 1991 and 1994. They are still in operation today.

In 1995, Effertz Tore GmbH was the first company to introduce a smoke protection sectional door that meets the smoke protection requirements of DIN 18095. This DIN standard, which defines the properties of single and double-leaf smoke protection doors, was applied analogously to sectional doors. The test was carried out at the Materials Testing Office in North Rhine-Westphalia in Dortmund. At an overpressure of 50 Pascal and a room temperature of 200 ° C, the maximum leakage rate for the 3.4 m wide and 3 m high door was less than 12 m³ / h. For single-leaf doors the permitted limit value is 20 m³ / h, for double-leaf doors 30 m³ / h. The application of the test results has been regulated in Part 3 of DIN 18095 since 1999. In 1997, the company received the innovation award at the international trade fair "R + T" in Stuttgart for the development of the smoke protection sectional doors.

In 2002 the subsidiary Effertz Polska Sp. Z oo was founded in Posen / Poland. Effertz Tore GmbH sold the shares in this subsidiary to the former minority shareholder in 2010.

In 2008, Effertz Tore GmbH was the first manufacturer to produce a textile fire protection curtain that corresponds to the European EW60 classification. With a heat-reflecting coating, the curtain reduces the heat transfer by more than 80% compared to an uncoated curtain of the same type. The test was carried out in accordance with the European standard DIN EN 1634-1.

In September 2009 Effertz Tore was entered in the list of prequalified companies by the certification body ZertBau. With the entry in the prequalification list, reliability, specialist knowledge and efficiency are documented with a kind of seal of approval.

In July 2013, the German Institute for Structural Engineering in Germany issued the first T30 approval for the Iso3 insulating fire protection curtain from Effertz.
