Egbert van Heemskerk I.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Egbert van Heemskerk I the Elder (* 1610 in Haarlem ; † 1680 ) was a Dutch painter.

He painted war scenes in the taste of Adriaen Brouwer and Teniers in lively, witty drawings and with brilliant coloring. Like his son Egbert van Heemskerk II , he also made numerous paintings depicting scenes from taverns or the interiors of schools with learning children. His works are sometimes confused with those of his son, as both created very similar works both thematically and stylistically.
