The Egemen Qazaqstan ( Kazakh Егемен Қазақстан , Russian Егемен Казакстан ) is an official, Kazakh-language daily newspaper in Kazakhstan .

history

The first edition of Egemen Qazaqstan was published on December 17, 1919. At that time the paper appeared under the name Uschqyn (Ұшқын) in Orenburg , the then capital of the Kyrgyz Autonomy . In the course of its existence, the newspaper changed its name several times. In 1920 it was renamed Jengbek tuy (Еңбек туы) and the following year the name was changed to Jengbekschil qasaq (Еңбекшіл қазақ). In 1925 the editorial office moved to Ksyl-Orda . In 1932 it was renamed Sozialdy Qasaqstan (Социалды Қазақстан) and from 1937 the newspaper was called Sozialistik Qasaqstan (Социалистік Қазақстан). In the 1930s in particular, many well-known Kazakh politicians and writers worked for the newspaper, including Smaghul Säduaqassow , Muchtar Äuesow , Saken Seifullin , Turar Rysqulow , Ghabit Müssirepow and Oras Shandossow who were the editors of the paper.

In 1957 the newspaper was awarded the Order of the Red Labor Banner . After Kazakhstan's independence in 1991, the newspaper again changed its name to Egemendi Qasaqstan (Егеменді Қазақстан). Two years later, after a long discussion, the ending -di was removed from the name. In 1975 the circulation was 150,000 copies, today it is 83,600 per day.
