Pivovar Eggenberg is a Czech brewery that was founded in 1560 and is based in Český Krumlov .

Rosenberger breweries

The original manorial brewery was located in the IVth courtyard in front of today's coat bridge since the 14th century . The gentleman's brewery no longer met the increasing demand in the 16th century, and Wilhelm von Rosenberg therefore founded a new brewery in the then outer bailey in the district of Latrán in 1560 . The spring water, which is still used for brewing today, was fed into the brewery yard through a pipe built by Jakob Krčín from Jelčany .

Eggenberger brewery

Český Krumlov and with it the brewery came into the possession of the noble Bohemian Eggenberg family in 1622 . Due to the increasing consumption of beer, an additional location was sought and the site between the Minorite monastery and the Moldau loop was selected. Between 1625-1630 the burghers Václav Vlach built the former seat of the widow Anna of Rogendorf, mother of Wilhelm von Rosenberg, from 1546 and the 1594 by Domenico Benedetto Cometa built Rosenberger armory to the shop floor. Today's brewery is still at this point.

After the Eggenbergs died out in 1719 and the Schwarzenbergs then ruled in Krumau, the name "Schlossbrauerei" or "Schwarzenberger Brauerei" was common. In 1945 the brewery was expropriated by the state and in 1950 merged with Budweiser and other breweries in the South Bohemian Breweries ( Jihočeské pivovary ).

The brand name “Eggenberg” was reintroduced with the reprivatisation of the brewery, whereby František Mrázek bought the company on September 7, 1991 for 75 million Czech crowns . The brewery was valued at 692 million crowns in 1995 and converted into a stock corporation . On 16 May 2008, the company had a sales outstanding of 137 million kroner at 48 creditors bankrupt , after which the brewery was two months out of action. When the brewery was struggling to survive again in autumn 2013, it was taken over by the brewery in Pardubice.

Historic brewery

The investor Fortuno Group acquired the brewery in 2015 and brews beers under the Krumlov brand name in the newly established “ Historický pivovar Český Krumlov” . The restaurant operation still bears the name Pivovarské restaurace Eggenberg .
