Life
Cometta was the son of Giovanni Cometta and the brother of the stonemason Antonio Cometta. From 1583 until his death he lived in Budweis, where he bought his first house in 1587 and another house on the main square of Budweis in 1601. From 1609 to 1620 Cometta was a member of the Budweis city council.
Cometta is best known as the master builder of the Bohemian aristocratic Rosenberg and Neuhaus families . From 1583 to 1595 he still worked under the direction of his brother-in-law Baldassare Maggi at the Castle of Hluboká nad Vltavou (Fraunberg Castle), after which he pursued his own construction projects.
He had two children with his wife Ludmilla Plánek. His son Giovanni Cometta († 1648) became mayor of Budweis. His nephew Giovanni studied at the Jesuit College in Český Krumlov and became dean of the Budweis diocese .
Works
Cometta managed the following construction projects:
- 1594: Armory (brewery from 1625) in Český Krumlov (Krumau)
- from 1595: Jesuit college in Jindřichův Hradec (Neuhaus), which Adam II von Neuhaus and his wife Katharina von Montfort had donated.
- 1596–1598: New construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity (today St. Jost) in Krumau
- 1598–1602: Budweiser Tor in Krumau
- 1599–1611: Extension of Třeboň Castle , where Petr Vok , the last Rosenberg, moved his residence.
- 1607: The church tower of Třeboň monastery was restored
- 1608: restoration of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Neuhaus after a fire.
