Egil Offenberg

Egil Offenberg (born March 8, 1899 in Christiania , † July 8, 1975 ) was a Norwegian entrepreneur , economic manager and politician of the Høyre , who was Minister for Supply and Reconstruction in 1945 in the first government of Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen .

After graduating from school in 1917, Offenberg attended business school for a year and began working in the export industry in 1918. After working in Spain and France , he joined the Schous Brewery (Schous Bryggeri) in Oslo in 1922 , where he worked until he retired in 1969. After attending the brewery school in Munich , he became vice director in 1925, before he was managing director of Schous Bryggeri from 1932 to 1969 .

Offenberg began his political career in local politics and was from 1937 to 1951 for the conservative Høyre member of the city council (Bystyre) of Oslo. After the German occupation of Norway by the Weser Exercise company , he became involved in the resistance movement and was a representative of the economy in the KK coordination committee (coordination committee) from 1942 and in the leadership of the home front (Hjemmefrontens Ledelse) from 1944 .

After the end of the Second World War and the formation of an all-party government (Samlingsregjeringen) under Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen, Offenberg became Minister for Supply and Reconstruction (Forsynings- og Gjenreisningsminister) in this first Gerhardsen government on June 25, 1945 . He held this ministerial office until the end of Gerhardsen's first term on November 5, 1945.

Later he was first chairman from 1948 to 1957 and then vice-chairman between 1957 and 1968 of the Norwegian Brewery Association (Den norske Bryggeriforening) . In addition, he was the successor to Eilif Bang from 1950 until his replacement by Hans Theodor Kiær in 1953, chairman of the employers' association (Norges Industriforbund) and was a member of the boards of various companies such as Christiania Bank og Kreditkasse , the paper factory Södra Cell Tofte , the mineral water company Farris A / S and the airline Det Norske Luftfartselskap (DNL).

In 1955, Offenberg was made First Class Knight of the Order of Saint Olav for his many years of service . He was also commander of the Swedish Order of Vasa and knight of the Danish Order of Dannebrog .
