Egilmaar of Oldenburg

Egilmaar von Oldenburg (* in the 12th century; † 1217 in the Holy Land ) was canon of Münster and provost in Friesland .

Life

Origin and family

Egilmaar von Oldenburg came from the Wildeshausener line of the Oldenburg count family and was the son of Heinrich II. Von Oldenburg and his wife Beatrix von Loccum-Hallermund, daughter of Count Wilbrand I. von Loccum-Hallermund . His siblings were

  • Henry III. (⚔ May 27, 1234), Count von Wildeshausen and Bruchhausen, ∞ Ermtrud von Schoten-Breda, daughter of Count Heinrich II. Von Breda
  • Wilbrand († 1233), Bishop of Paderborn (1211–1233) and Utrecht (1227–1233)
  • Burchard (⚔ July 6, 1233), Count von Wildeshausen and Bruchhausen, ∞ Kunigunde von Schoten-Breda, daughter of Count Heinrich II. Von Breda. He was Count von Wildeshausen from 1199 to 1233.

Act

Egilmaar was first mentioned in a document in 1209 as the canon of Münster. In 1217 he was provost in Friesland. On May 29, 1217 he went on board a ship in Vlaardingen near Rotterdam to take part in the Damiette crusade . He died in the skirmish, also known as the Fifth Crusade .
