Fritz Gliem

Fritz Gliem (born February 17, 1934 in Fulda ; † May 18, 2020 ) was a German electrical engineer and university professor . He was a pioneer in space electronics in Germany.

Life

Fritz Gliem studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig . In 1955 he became active in the Corps Rhenania ZAB . Later he also became an old man of the Corps Franconia Karlsruhe . He completed his studies as a Dipl.-Ing. from. In 1968 he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. From the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig. PhD. Together with Hans-Otto Leilich , he built up Braunschweig Datentechnik from 1968. At the Institute for Data Technology and Communication Networks, he was most recently academic director and honorary professor and headed the research group compact computers for space travel.

The instrument computers and storage systems developed by Gliem were groundbreaking for space electronics. Starting with the Helios solar research satellite , he was involved in numerous national and international space missions. His work established the international reputation of the TU Braunschweig in the field of space electronics.

Awards

  • NASA Group Achievement Award 2017, along with 37 other engineers and scientists from the Dawn Framing Camera Team.
