The Egingwah Bay is a bay of McClintock Inlet , a fjord of the Arctic Ocean in the north of Ellesmere Island . It belongs to the Quttinirpaaq National Park in the Nunavut Territory in Canada and is about 103 km from Cape Columbia .
The bay is named after Egingwah, one of the four Inuit who took part in Robert Edwin Peary's expedition to the North Pole in 1909 . Ootah Bay , on the opposite side of M'Clintock Inlet, is also named after a participant of this expedition.
climate
The climate at Ootah Bay is highly arctic with very little rainfall. The average temperature in the summer months of June, July and August 0 ° C. In winter the air temperature can drop below −40 ° C. Polar day and polar night each last over 4.5 months. Northern lights also occur .
