Egon Stolterfoht (* 1912 in Hamburg ; † 1986 in Berlin ) was a German painter and sculptor of the 20th century. He belonged to the circle of artists around Franz Marc and Otto Dix . His most famous works include depictions of animals, such as B. the owl in Franckepark in Berlin-Tempelhof or the "laughing bear" at the Glienicke hunting lodge.

Life

After his birth he moved to Bremerhaven in 1918 and to Breslau in 1925 . After school he completed an apprenticeship as a painter and attended the Breslau School of Applied Arts from 1930 to 1933. His teachers were Ludwig Peter Kowalski and G. Utinger. After moving to Berlin in 1936, he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1937 to 1940. From 1940 to 1941 he was commissioned to paint a mural in the Argus aircraft engine works in Karlsruhe. He then did military service in 1942. From 1943 to 1945 he was a teacher in German drawing films. After the war he was a lecturer in animal, nude and ornamental drawing at the Berlin-Weißensee University of Applied Sciences. In 1950 he moved from East to West Berlin and has been working as a freelancer ever since. He designed church windows in West Berlin (church in Alt-Tempelhof) and the Federal Republic of Germany Johanniskirche (Witten) and Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Detmold) . In 1972 he completed the table altar "The Life and Suffering of Christ". After that, he devoted himself increasingly to small animal sculpture. He died in 1986 in his house in the Berlin-Hermsdorf district.
